Social media influencer Sapna Gill, who was accused of physically assaulting Prithvi Shaw over a denied selfie, was sent to a 20-day judicial custody in Mumbai on Monday, February 20.
Social media influencer Sapna Gill, who was booked for allegedly assaulting India cricketer Prithvi Shaw, along with 3 other accused were sent to judicial custody on Monday, February 20. The 14-day judicial custody will get underway on Monday after police custody ended on Monday. Sapna was one of 8 people arrested by Oshiwara Police after the incident in Mumbai under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (143, 148, 149, 384, 437, 504, 506).

Sapna Gill along with 7 others was booked by the Oshiwara Police in Mumbai after a complaint was filed by Prithvi Shaw's friend Ashish Surendra Yadav. In the complaint, Ashish said the group of people attacked his car with baseball bats and then followed the car and threatened false cases if a sum of Rs 50,000 was not given to them.

Notably, Sapna not only denied the allegations but said that Prithvi Shaw tried to physically assault her and her friends and was carrying a stick on the road in the city.

Prithvi Shaw had gone to a five-star hotel in Santacruz for dinner when the unidentified accused came there and insisted on a selfie. Shaw obliged two people with selfies, but the same group returned and asked for selfies with the other accused. Shaw refused this time saying he has come to eat food with friends and doesn't want to be disturbed. When they insisted, Prithvi's friend called the manager of the hotel and complained about them, according to the complaint.

The accused were asked to leave the hotel by the manager. This incident angered them and when Shaw and his friend came out of the hotel after eating, some people were standing outside the hotel with baseball bats. Prithvi’s friend’s car, a BMW, was vandalized as the accused used baseball bats to smash the front and rear windows of the vehicle.

Prithvi Shaw has been on a break from competitive cricket after India’s home series against New Zealand. Shaw was recalled to the T20i team for a 3-match series against the BlackCaps at home in January. However, the Mumbai opener did not get an opportunity in the playing XI.

Shaw has been in sensational form in the domestic circuit. The Mumbai captain hit 595 runs, including a hundred, in 6 matches in Ranji Trophy 2022-23 season. Shaw broke Sunil Gavaskar’s record for the highest total by a Mumbai batter in Ranji Trophy (340) when he hit 379 against Assam in January.
