Mumbai: In a tragic incident in Maharashtra's Thane, a 30-year-old youth allegedly killed his 12-year-old sister over suspicion that she had a physical relationship with someone after he noticed blood stains on her first period.

The youth from in Ulhasnagar area who has been working as a security guard in the city, was arrested by the police.

According to officials, the girl had her menarche, the beginning of menstruation, a few days ago. She had no clue about it and blood stains were visible on her clothes. Noticing this, the accused questioned her and alleged that she had intercourse with someone

The police officials said that the child, who was living with her brother and sister-in-law, was unable to explain the reason for the blood discharge as she did not have knowledge of the menstrual cycle.

The accused got angry and he burnt her with tongs on the mouth, the back and other parts of her body, the police said. She was taken to hospital later, but was declared 'brought dead', the officer said.

A case of murder has been registered against the youth at Ulhasnagar police station under section 302 of the Indian Penal Code.
