MUMBAI: The city economic offences wing (EOW) on Wednesday arrested a 55-year-old developer for cheating a restaurant owner of Rs 3.63 crore. The accused, Jayesh Tanna, had taken money from the complainant and allotted him three flats on the floors that were supposed to be handed over to old tenants in the redevelopment project.

Belor Shetty (61), lodged a complaint with the police. In his complaint, he told the EOW that the cheating took place between January 2012 and May 17, 2023. "We have arrested the accused, Jayesh Tanna, and produced him before the court. He has been sent to police custody till May 22," said an officer.

Shetty in his complaint told police that through friends he got acquainted with Tanna in 2012. Tanna informed him about his project in D N Nagar. Shetty along with a friend visited the site and decided to book flats. He booked five flats and paid a total of Rs 3.63 crore.

Tanna's company, Sai Siddhant Developers, is also accused in the FIR. Tanna was supposed to hand over possession of the flats in November 2015, the complainant stated in the FIR. However, since 2015 the work has stopped. When he inquired about the flats, the complainant learnt that three flats booked by him were already allotted to the tenants on the redeveloped floors. Two flats were booked in the saleable area. This is when he demanded that he get the flats or his money back.
