MUMBAI: The motive behind the brutal killing of Saraswati Vaidya by her 'husband' Manoj Sane in their Mira Road flat remains unclear. Sane will be produced in the Thane court on Friday for further police custody.

Sane was arrested on June 7 for Vaidya's murder. Police found Vaidya's body parts chopped, pressure cooked and roasted in the kitchen of the flat in Geeta Akashdeep building. While Sane maintained that Vaidya committed suicide by consuming poison, cops are probing his role in using poison to kill Vaidya. Sane had purchased pesticide from a shop in Borivli days before the murder which is believed to have taken place on June 4. He has not been able to say why he purchased the pesticides. Cops are relying on the autopsy report of J J Hospital to ascertain if poison traces were found on the victim's body.

The couple stayed in the rented flat for three years. Sane referred to the victim as his live-in partner and an orphan. Vaidya's sisters later revealed to the police that the couple had married in a temple. Police have recorded the statement of around 20 persons, including the victim's sisters and neighbours from the building where the murder took place.
