MUMBAI: Parents of students of Kapol International School in Kandivali (West) in Mumbai protested against the playing of a recorded ‘azan’ during the morning school assembly on Friday.
Students entered the school at around 7 am. A teacher who was to conduct the prayers is believed to have played the ‘azan’ on the public address system of the school.
Parents alleged that the prayers of a minority community were played to create communal tension.
BJP MLA Yogesh Sagar said the prayer was played intentionally, especially since it was a Friday. He said the school was protecting the teacher and demanded action against the teacher.
Parents said the ICSE school has different religious songs during the assembly and this is the first time a recording of the minority community has been played.
No class could be conducted due to the protest inside the school premises.
No police case has been filed yet.
Parents said they will sit in protest till action is taken against the teacher.
