Navi Mumbai man was booked by police for harassment, officials said on Tuesday. According to the report in PTI, the Navi Mumbai man has been harassing a 29-year-old woman and has been coercing her into providing him sexual favours. After the incident, the Rabale Police filed a case against him based on a complaint registered by the woman.
According to the PTI report, the woman's husband borrowed Rs 4.79 lakh from the accused, who is 28 years old, in March 2021. From July 2021 to December 2022, the couple dutifully paid the full loan amount to the accused.
Reportedly, despite having fully repaid the money, the accused allegedly began to threaten the woman, her husband, and their son. The incident escalated when the accused went to the woman's home in the Ghansoli region, verbally harassing her and coercing her for sexual favours, according to the victim's complaint.
The accused allegedly coerced the couple into paying an additional Rs 4,96,500. After nearly a year of harassment, the victim eventually sought police help, the report added.
According to the PTI report, the authorities have filed a case against the accused under several sections of the Indian Penal Code, including 386 (extortion), 452 (house-trespass with intent to cause harm, assault, or wrongful restraint), 354(A) (sexual harassment), 509 (outraging modesty), 506(2) (criminal intimidation), and 504 (intentional insult to provoke breach of peace).
A thorough investigation is currently underway, the cops told PTI.
Meanwhile, in another incident from Navi Mumbai, a man suffered injuries after he was assaulted by a tanker driver. According to the report in PTI, the aggrieved, aged 21, was assaulted by an unidentified tanker driver and some other persons following a dispute, the cops said.
According to the cops' statement to PTI, the incident happened in the wee hours of Monday in the Turbhe area. They said that there was an altercation between the victim and the tanker driver after which he and his accomplices hit the complainant with iron rods and sticks.
The victim, who lives in Sea woods neighborhood, was grievously hurt; he has been hospitalized and is in critical condition.
The official said that they have filed a case against unidentified accused under a slew of Indian Penal Code sections including 141, 143 (unlawful assembly), 147 (rioting), 504 (intentional insult with purpose to incite breach of peace), 326 (voluntarily causing serious hurt), and 307 (attempt to murder). The manhunt for the accused is on.
